Mataatua Wharenui, Whakatane

In December 2010, Marra commenced the construction of a new wharekai, new interpretive hall, wharepaku and associated site works and restoration of the existing historical Wharenui at Mataatua Marae in Whakatane.

This project involved liaising with the Iwi and archaeologists to ensure all cultural protocol were being adhered to. A number of the personnel employed on-site were local residents and were descendants from the Mataatua Iwi.
