Marra Construction initially tendered for the Fashion Island Retail Complex in 2005. The aim of the client, Prime Retail of Auckland, was to supply additional retail space to the rapidly growing Papamoa area in Tauranga. This complex consisted of 20 separate tenancies and a stand-alone cafe, along with extensive landscaping
design throughout.
The construction brief specified concrete floors, precast concrete external and inter-tenancy walls, and structural steel roof framing with low pitch steel roofs. Exposed aggregate walkways with timber decks and seating aid the stained ply and cedar wether board cladding asthetics.
The project was contracted on a hybrid GMP basis and was completed on time and within budget. The project was fast tracked to an exceptionally tight timeframe. The construction period commenced in December 2005 and the centre opened in May 2006.
