Tauranga City Council Civic Building

Marra won the open tender to construct an additional floor of offices for the Tauranga City Council over the existing library building where previously the top floor had been used as a Council car park.

A large portion of the demolition and high impact noise work was carried out outside of normal working hours. However, the primary challenge was that during the project, the library remained operational and therefore the building had to remain watertight at all times.

Construction methodologies were therefore changed to suit the specific project challenges. The roof and external walls were built prior to cutting the slab for the lift shaft extension and the removal of the asphalt car park surface. A suspended floor was then constructed that required precise measurements and machining of the floor joists as the existing concrete slab had been laid for the car park drainage.

The project was completed on time and within budget
